Vear Surgical have been in operation since 1991 and was founded by Mike Vear, an industry veteran. Along with the recent appointment of Alan Bryant (a highly qualified surgical instrument repairer), Vear Surgical provide an all-round service to hospitals and surgeons alike to meet their ongoing medical instrument needs.

Mike Vear
During his 25 year career developing surgical instruments, Mike Vear has gained invaluable experience and career highlights that has attributed to the success of Vear Surgical.
After gaining his surgical instrument apprenticeship at the world renowned Thackray of Leeds in the United Kingdom, Mike Vear continued working here as an instrument manufacturer for 15 years. During this time Mike Vear took part in the manufacture of hip replacements and was lucky enough to collaborate with the pioneer of modern hip replacement surgery Sir John Charnley.
In 1985 Mike Vear immigrated to New Zealand and worked for the Aukland DHB for 10 years as a surgical instrument specialist for several hospitals.
Mike Vears extensive career, experience and industry knowledge put him in good stead to launch his very own company Vear Surgical. Since the birth of Vear Surgical in 1991, Mike Vear has been involved in the successful design of several newly developed instruments that have not only been recognised by overseas markets, but have also been put into production by many major surgical instrument companies internationally.
Alan Bryant
Vear Surgical also have the pleasure of appointing another invaluable member of the team in Alan Bryant. Alan Bryant is a highly regarded surgical instrument repairer from Australia whose career spans 25 years.
Alan Bryant’s career encompasses vast experience in the maintenance, repair, design and manufacture of surgical instruments in a variety of specialties from Opthalmic to Orthopaedics. Alan’s training and experience included collaborating with surgeons to design or modify one off surgical instruments and also working as a biomedical technician for various hospitals. Alan has also facilitated the repair of surgical power tools and rigid surgical scopes.
A career highlight involved the design and development of a paediatric transport bridge for child flights at the Camperdown Children’s Hospital which was approved for aviation use.
Alan then developed his own surgical instrument repair business based in Canberra and was able to grow this business to service customers spanning the majority of southern NSW and many hospitals.
